What is Go?
Briefly, Go is a board game, in which two players try to
conquer the board. With the stones they play on the board they
try to occupy territory and attack opponent's stones. During
the game the stones form large groups, which battle for life
and death.
What makes Go so interesting, is it's simpicity and vast
complexity. The
rules
are extremely simple. You learn them in 15 minutes and then
you are ready to play. On the other hand, Go offers
infinite strategical and tactical possibilities. You
always learn more.
Club evenings
We play on Mondays at 6pm
in Jämeräntaival 3A
Takkakabinetti or Pelitila (game room) located on the same corridor.
Please note that the door to the building is
locked, so to access the building you either need to:
- Hope the door is open (which is quite likely during the
spring/summer/fall)...
- Wait for some friendly soul to pass by and let you in...
- Know a number code to the door...
- Call to Mikko Lappeteläinen (041 4538466) to get inside.
- Warn us ;) in advance by
mailing us.
- Knock (gently) the windows of Takkakabinetti (from the main
door: go down, go left, go up and knock the windows)...
Everyone is welcome (no membership is needed).
Membership
Membership fee is 7 € for a semester (~6 months) and 10€
for two (consecutive) semesters. The members get:
- The membership of Finnish Go Federation
- The right to use PoGo's library
- Possibly a discount in a collective equipment order
(the discount in year 2004 was 5%)
- Possibly a discount in other events organized by PoGo
Membership can be purchased during the game evenings from
the PoGo's board (meaning usually the chairman or the treasurer).
